Artist exhibit at New Museum. Here is a major museum exhibition with an artist who is black, an ardent feminist who uses craft materials and techniques (cloth, quilting)—women’s art that was not considered art by institutions but relegated to a lesser category (you should have heard my mother, a studio potter, on the subject). Women’s art, overtly political art. It’s art taking up three floors of a museum at last. And what art! I floated away into the stars with her figures of a little girl flying over the George Washington Bridge
